Boat of the Week: Ocean Alexander 45 Divergence
This week’s boat of the week is the Ocean Alexander 45 Divergence. This is a pretty unusual model for Ocean Alexander which otherwise boasts a range of far larger boats. Let’s dive in and see what makes this boat stand out from the crowd.
The Ocean Alexander 45 Divergence is a 47 footer. It was introduced a year ago in February 2019 and so far it has received good feedback from various quarters.
The boat is available with a variety of cosmetic options to suit the customer’s tastes. Power comes from four 350hp outboards, which is an increasingly popular power option these days versus inboard.
The Divergence boasts a fantastic array of on board amenities. This includes two TVs (one on a motorised lift in the cockpit, the other below deck in the cabin), a Fusion sound system, a grill, live wells, refrigerated fish boxes, and ample seating as well as several sun pads. When passengers need a break from the sun, the cockpit can be covered by a large motorised sun shade that extends out from the hard top. The seating area in the bow has a separate sun shade that hooks into the hard top and is supported by several carbon fibre stays that hook into the bulwarks.
The biggest highlight of the boat for me personally is the fold-down bulwarks. The Divergence includes two of them, one on each side. Hidden inside the bulwark is a reboarding ladder that deploys to allow for easy access in and out of the water.
With both sides folded down, the Divergence really takes on the character of a superyacht. Both sides can be fitted with an included set of railings to ensure nobody takes an accidental tumble overboard. Otherwise the sides can be left open for uninterrupted views and easy access to the water.
The Ocean Alexander 45 Divergence is built for comfort and not speed or high performance. Some reviewers have even described it as a ‘day yacht’. With a full double berth downstairs as well as a heads with a separate walk-in shower, the boat really has everything a couple could need for a night or two out on the water.
The Ocean Alexander 45 Divergence really is a centre console with the spirit of a superyacht. Boasting features normally reserved for much larger boats, it is a unique offering that has deservedly had a long list of potential buyers queuing to test it.
